ABOUT US

Welcome from our Congregation

FIRST, WE WANT TO SAY THANKS FOR CHECKING US OUT. WE'RE PRETTY EXCITED ABOUT WHAT GOD IS DOING AT OUR CHURCH AND WE'RE GLAD TO HAVE THE CHANCE TO SHARE THAT WITH YOU.

We call our church a church of miracles as well as the mighty little church that can. We believe that through God all things are possible and that there is nothing better than learning to walk through life with, and for God. God is a generous giver bestowing upon us the gift of Jesus Christ. It is Jesus who  is there for us on our best days and doesn't leave us when it feels like everything is falling apart. Christ encourages us and challenges us and gives us a purpose in life that is worth giving everything we have for.  With hearts full and hands open, we learn to be of hope and service to others.

All of that's great, but what makes it even better is that we get to learn and grow together. As a community of disciples, we are all on the journey of discovering and learning. None of us are perfect, none of us have it all together, none of us have all the answers, but we learn and grow, laugh, and serve together. We care for each other and we seek to bring God's love into a broken world, both nearby and far away.

It's been an incredible journey so far and we know God isn't through with us yet. We don't know what's next, but God does, and we'd love to have you along for whatever God has in store for us.

For surely I know the plans I have for you,

plans for your welfare and for your future full of hope.  Jeremiah 29: 11

WHAT IS THE UCC

The United Church of Christ (UCC) is a distinct and diverse community of Christians that come together as one church to join faith and action.  With over 5,000 churches and nearly one million members across the U.S., the UCC serves God in the co-creation of a just and sustainable world.  The UCC is a church of firsts, a church of extravagant welcome, and a church where "…they may all be one" (John 17:21).

The Church of Firsts

The United Church of Christ began with our earliest Pilgrims and Puritans and has been transformed and transforming ever since. The UCC has been the church of firsts, weaving God’s message of hope and extravagant welcome with action for justice and peace. Together, we live out our faith in ways that effect change in our communities.  The UCC's many "firsts" mean that we have inherited a tradition of acting upon the demands of our faith.  When we read in Galatians: "There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus"—a demand is made upon us. And so we were the first historically white denomination to ordain an African-American, the first to ordain a woman, the first to ordain an openly gay man, and the first Christian church to affirm the right of same-gender couples to marry. We were in the forefront of the anti-slavery movement and the Civil Rights movement.  Our response to the demands of our faith is woven into the history of our country.

A Church of Extravagant Welcome

Today, we continue to change lives throughout the world. We work alongside more than 200 mission partners. We labor ceaselessly to fight injustice, in the United States and abroad. We instill our vision into our youth and young adults, forging leaders who will imagine new dreams. And we sustain and develop church leaders, pastors, and our local churches to live their faith in exciting new ways.  We believe in a God that is still speaking, a God that is all-loving and inclusive.  We are a church that welcomes and accepts everyone as they are, where your mind is nourished as much as your soul.

We are a church where Jesus the healer meets Jesus the revolutionary, and where together, we grow a just and peaceful world.

MEET OUR STAFF

VICTOR DERUBEIS

OUR

PASTOR

East Weymouth Congregational Church, UCC, is currently searching for a new pastor following the departure of our longtime pastor and teacher, the Rev. Gretchen Elmendorf.

As always, each member of our community serves as a pastor to each other as we prayerfully go through this process, which all congregational churches go through.

During this time we have been blessed with a series of preachers who bring their own unique perspectives to Scripture and its application to our daily lives.
